Vitrification (Egg & Embryo Freezing)

Many of you may have read the article in the Sunday Times on September 2nd, 2007 titled 'Egg freezing now available to all women'. The article discussed two of Britain’s leading fertility clinics launching new egg freezing programmes designed for women with cancer who's cancer treatment may cause infertility or women who wish to postpone motherhood to pursue a career or find the right partner. This is all possible by a breakthrough in freezing technology that almost eliminates the risk of damage to eggs and embryos. IVFWales is pleased to announce that we were the first clinic in the UK to offer the process called Vitrification and began 'Vitrifiying' in August 2007. Vitrification has been carried out extensively and successfully in Japan and the USA. Our Head of Embryology has carried out Vitrifcation in both America and Sweden. Please contact the clinic for further details.

Egg Sharing

IVFWales has set up egg sharing to help patients needing donated eggs and patients for whom the expense of fertility treatment prevents them from the treatment they need. Due to UK shortages of eggs for donation egg sharing, presents opportunities for mutually beneficial treatment.

Often IVF clinics have to send egg share patients to other clinics in the UK on the day of treatment. Our egg sharing scheme will all be carried out 'in house' here at IVFWales.
